Project Overview: For the first three weeks of the school year, students explored the ideas of analyzing evidence, building an argument, and separating fact from fiction by acting as lawyers and witnesses in a mock trial. Students were presented with a case and assigned a role, such as prosecuting attorney or defense attorney. Students were tasked with analyzing the evidence, building a case, preparing witnesses, developing questions for direct-examination and cross-examination, and writing opening and closing statements. The entire case was then be played out and judged by a jury of their peers.
